The WPA Poster Collection Wall Art

One of the efforts of the Works Progress Administration was to provide work, meaningful work, for artists, writers, musicians and artisans. And one aspect of this outreach was the creation of approximately 35,000 separate poster designs, most of which have been lost to indifference and the ravages of the elements. What I am offering in this collection is my selection of 18 posters from the 1,000 or so that survived, plus three photograph interpretations. I feel a tremendous sense of loss when I think of the lacuna in American arts these survivors represent. But I believe these few will give you an idea of the originality and energy the WPA programs generated. [One caveat: These posters are my interpretation of the WPA products....
