Artist's Description
Gliese 581 d is the designation for one of the exoplanets recently discovered. Since no one has an inkling of what it looks like, I let my imagination fill in the gaps. And so, for this photo manipulation I gave it a double moon system. Once in their cycle these satellites set at the same time and do so in front of a massive gas nebula. The results are spectacular. The moons appear to be emitting the gas cloud from themselves, giving the night sky a fireworks feel. This effect is enhanced by the closely packed star cluster in the lower right and by the misty stars in the upper right. The tortured land mass also makes its contribution the overall effect. The fossil of some long extinct beast lies exposed by erosion and glows pale and ghostly in the moons' light. Of course, this whole scene is just my speculation. But astronomers and zenobiologists say that the conditions are right for life on many of the newly discovered worlds. I guess we won't know for sure till we go there.
About Chuck Mountain
Chuck's creative background is wide and varied. He was a professional violinist, a published author, a multilingual graphic designer, a community college teacher, a Lutheran (ELCA) pastor, and a book designer (interior and covers). As a result, his work could be broadly categorized as digital art. His graphic design influences his digital art; and his digital art has features of his design work. In other words, they overlap. Someone put it this way: "What you do is not traditional art, and it isn't strictly graphic design. It's somewhere in-between." Chuck says he couldn't have said it better.
