Artist's Description
This map is one of the most colorful and bright I've come across. The red highlight in the middle gives the image a focus and energizes the other colors and shapes.
I have inserted a picture of a train dating from this period in order to put something in the huge blank area in the original map. The map needed balance. I suspect that this was a map distributed throughout New York and its neighboring states for advertising train travel. People would use this map as a backdrop for posting train and transit schedules. They might use it as a place to tack personal and community information. Well, that's how I would use this placard.
You, of course, may use this as a quaint conversation piece in your living room, basement, place of work etcetera. As always, this map has been thoroughly edited and restored to a high artistic standard.
About Chuck Mountain
Chuck's creative background is wide and varied. He was a professional violinist, a published author, a multilingual graphic designer, a community college teacher, a Lutheran (ELCA) pastor, and a book designer (interior and covers). As a result, his work could be broadly categorized as digital art. His graphic design influences his digital art; and his digital art has features of his design work. In other words, they overlap. Someone put it this way: "What you do is not traditional art, and it isn't strictly graphic design. It's somewhere in-between." Chuck says he couldn't have said it better.
