Artist's Description
It's hard to say why this boat was hauled out to rot. Was it damaged by the rocks in the river? Did the owner buy a better boat? Perhaps a gas powered motor couldn't be mounted on it.
Well, we don't know, but here it is, literally coming apart at the seams and filling with river sand and plants. I've always discovered a strange beauty to things decaying and returning to the earth. Objects like this always cast my imagination into the past as I try to picture what it looked like when new, as well as who the people were that rode it through the rapids in the background.
About Chuck Mountain
Chuck's creative background is wide and varied. He was a professional violinist, a published author, a multilingual graphic designer, a community college teacher, a Lutheran (ELCA) pastor, and a book designer (interior and covers). As a result, his work could be broadly categorized as digital art. His graphic design influences his digital art; and his digital art has features of his design work. In other words, they overlap. Someone put it this way: "What you do is not traditional art, and it isn't strictly graphic design. It's somewhere in-between." Chuck says he couldn't have said it better.
