This poster attempts to express the fundamental building blocks of the universe. The einsteinian formula for energy conversion, the double helix in DNA, the Golden Proportion in visual arts, the plot of planets in their orbits, pi, and binary code are all a part of God's Creation, made in wisdom and careful attention to detail.
At least two biblical revelations are expressed in this image as well: 1. The fundamental revelation of God as YHWH, the LORD at the time of the Exodus. 2. The coming of our Lord Jesus Christ into the world as a fully formed human being. As Luther's small catechism formulates it, Jesus is "true God, begotten of the Father from eternity; and true human being, born of the virgin Mary." I expressed this latter idea by combining alpha and omega, the first and last letters of the Greek alphabet. Notice that the omega contains an ampersand, suggesting an infant in its mother's womb.
Chuck's creative background is wide and varied. He was a professional violinist, a published author, a multilingual graphic designer, a community college teacher, a Lutheran (ELCA) pastor, and a book designer (interior and covers). As a result, his work could be broadly categorized as digital art. His graphic design influences his digital art; and his digital art has features of his design work. In other words, they overlap. Someone put it this way: "What you do is not traditional art, and it isn't strictly graphic design. It's somewhere in-between." Chuck says he couldn't have said it better.
