Description
My paraphrase of Psalm 46 is the backbone of this piece. But it also has other, not-so-obvious features: 1. The background musical score is a scan of "A Mighty Fortress", J.S. Bach's powerful cantata based on the hymn text and tune by Martin Luther. 2. Luther's Rose, his visual summary of his theology, is in the background.
The cross, of course, is the central symbol of God's work in Christ for the world, and has a prominent place in Luthers view of the faith. The Latin words translate as: Scripture alone, Christ alone, faith alone, grace alone, to God alone the glory. Amen.
